Dear Friends,
Gwenna and I had a lovely holiday in Nova Scotia as we took a road trip to Halifax, Cape Breton, Peggy’s Cove and Lunenberg. It was good to get away and to enjoy the scenery, the history and the food of the east coast of Canada.
My special thanks to Victor Shepherd for his preaching while I was on holiday. Also to our staff Samantha and Graciela for their pastoral and worship leadership.
This Sunday I will be focusing in on the story of Jesus’ miracle of the offering of a boy's lunch consisting of 5 loaves and 2 fish to feed over 5000 people. I am doing this in anticipation of John Elliot ( guest speaker next Sunday (October 6th) with the Good Neighbour Project and the Canadian Food Grains Bank. John will introduce our congregation to the challenges of food security in today’s world (and within our own country) and how we as a congregation can partner with CFGB to make a difference for those who know the suffering of hunger and famine. In the story Jesus asks Philip his disciple, “Where can we buy some bread so that all might be fed?” At first it seems like an impossible task. In many ways it is is a test of faith for Philip and the rest of the disciples. And yet as we know Jesus ( as the Bread of Life) can take the offering of a boy’s lunch and feed a multitude. God can take what we offer, however small we might think it is, and do some great things. So join me as we explore John 6:1-15.
Our 10 am Tuesday Morning Bible Study will be held on Tuesday October 1st. We are continuing with our study of the Gospel of John. Newcomers are always welcome.
Christianity Explored will meet 7 pm on Wednesday Oct 2nd. We are continuing in our study as we take a look at the Resurrection of Jesus and why it is both controversial and crucial for an understanding of the Christian faith.
Our condolences are extended to The McCauley family with the passing of Marion McCauley. Marion was a great encouragement to me during the pandemic as she wrote me several times thanking Glenbrook for the livestream/recorded broadcasts. Marion was able to come to her grand daughters wedding (Emilie) in August. Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted.
Have a great weekend
Pastor Ian.
