November 2, 2024

Hello and happy weekend, Glenbrook!

I hope you had a nice week :) If you handed out candy on Thursday, then I hope lots of cute kiddos came dressed up! It was the warmest end of October we've seen in years, so it's hard to believe we're into November with the sun shining, and jackets optional. The last few weeks I've started learning how to bake with sourdough. I've been keeping my starter alive by "feeding" it, and when it's active and bubbly I use the starter to bake! The first try didn't go well. But now I've done a few loaves, and I tried bagels for the first time. The loaf is looking better, but the bagels could use some work. I need to figure out how to get them to smooth out and be more...circular ha ha.

Please note that I will not be in the office on Tuesday or Wednesday, but I'll be back on Thursday!

International Dinner

As you may know, we are bringing back the International Dinner on Saturday, November 16th at 4:00 pm. That is basically two weeks away, so please sign up in the lobby and indicate how many might be attending, and if you can bring a dish from your country! If you do not know the dish, or you are unable to bring anything that's no problem – just check off the box so I still have the number of folks planning to attend so we can plan accordingly! Or even if you cannot attend, please consider sending me your family or cultural recipe that brings you back to your childhood comfort.

If you are able to help set up, please also let me know!

Christmas Concert

This year, our Christmas Concert will be held on Saturday, December 14th at 2:00pm. You may notice that this is a little bit earlier than previous years. We are hoping that this shift in time will allow those who cannot drive at night to be able to join! Also for those who have Christmas dinner plans will have time to do so after the concert. If you would like a ride to or from the concert, please let us know.

We will be starting our choir practice this Thursday at 7:30pm in the sanctuary. See you there with bells on!

Missions and Outreach

We have a lot happening with our Missions and Outreach team, so please take a look at everything coming up!

Muffins For Missions – This Sunday

Thank you to all those who baked and brought in muffins for us to enjoy with our coffee this week. All donations will go to The Dam for use at their Cooksville and Meadowvale locations.

Raw Carrot Soup Orders – Pick Up This Sunday!
All of the soup was picked up at the Paris Kitchen on Friday. To all who ordered - Come and Get It!

Geraldine and Cynthia will be sitting in the coffee area ready to accept cash payment and to hand over your yummy soups. We also have a list of those who have paid via the new e-transfer to glenbrookpcevents@gmail.com

Thank you so much for your wonderful participation in this first Order of the fall. We picked up 104 packages of soup. What great support for The Raw Carrot Enterprise!

Open Door – Thursday, November 7th

Thank you to each of the cooks who will be making the warm pasta casserole for this month's lunch. We also have people who are picking up the desserts, drinks, buns and tossed salad to go with the meal. ALL FOOD ITEMS NEED TO BE AT THE CHURCH ON THURSDAY BY 11AM.

Here is a picture of last months meal being served. Great work blessing others!

Canada Foodgrains Bank/Good Neighbour Project Fundraiser

The Missions and Outreach Committee would like to thank the 16 people who attended the trip to Thorndale. It was mentioned in the service last week and we wanted to show the congregation what we all were able to enjoy. There will be a few pictures to see from our trip, this Sunday morning before service. We thank God for the opportunity to learn, and to be blessed as we joined the Thorndale community.

If you wish, you have roughly two more weeks to donate. On November 17th, we will total the donations and report to all of you on November 24th.

Congratulations Gabrielle Labonte!

You may remember Gabrielle from many years ago! She was a member of Press B and also was a hired summer student of Glenbrook in her high school years. It feels like yesterday, but time has flown - she was married last weekend! Congratulations and blessings to her and her family on this joyous occasion.

November Schedule of Volunteers

Please let me know if there are any dates which I need to change or move for you 😊 If you would like to join the volunteer team even once every few months, let me know!
