August 24, 2024
Hi Glenbrook,
This week, we want to extend our love, blessings, and condolences to Margaret R.’s family on the passing of Margaret on August 18th. Pastor Ian performed a small committal service today, and the funeral will be held here at Glenbrook on August 31st. Margaret will be remembered as a beautiful soul who loved this church community deeply. Pastor Ian will continue to be away for the next few weeks, and we are fortunate to have special guest speaker Dr. Victor Shepherd take over the message both this Sunday and on September 1st. If you have any pastoral concerns over the next few weeks, please do not hesitate to contact me!
Even with Pastor Ian gone, it has been a wild week. Today alone, Mike and I went to a wedding of a friend over in Brampton. It was a beautiful ceremony, and they will be having more receptions in the coming weeks. I had to YouTube how to tie my saree on the way over this morning…I did not do the best job, but I did better than I thought I would! One of the groom’s aunties said she will help me for the reception ha ha.
After the wedding, Mike and I went straight to the church. He got a load of concrete, and we put our experience in Nicaragua to good use to mix the concrete and fill in the holes from construction earlier in the year. I was still wearing my wedding make up from the morning, so it was quite an outfit combo! As you come to the church, you’ll notice that the concrete is now filled in. But please don’t step on it until NEXT Sunday, once we’re sure it’s finished curing.

I know it seems kind of far away. But September is going to be moving fast, and it will be here before you know it! If you are interested in joining our Tuesday morning bible study, mark your calendar. We will let you know closer to which study we will be focusing on for the fall season.
Christianity Explored – October 3rd
After an incredible course run this summer, we are once again going to be offering the Christianity Explored in the fall. This is a great course for anyone who is questioning their faith, looking to get a better understanding of Christianity, considering Christianity, or would like to go back to the basics in their own faith. This is also a great course for those considering baptism into the faith. Please let me know if you are interested in signing up, and we will give you all of the course information closer to!
Upcoming Missions – Good Neighbour
This past week, our good friends Don and Cindy attended a fundraising BBQ for the Good Neighbour growing project in SW Ontario. About 120-130 people were there including the farmers undertaking the project, community members and supporters. It was held in a large wood/metal shed attached to the church – originally used for housing horses & buggies for church, plus skating rink! The Good Neighbour Project started in March 2020 as a response to the pandemic and the lack of equal access to resources like food and essential supplies. The pandemic highlighted inequities between those that could access resources and those that couldn't. They became a network of volunteers who would assist by delivering groceries, food bank hampers, essential household supplies, and medication to isolated seniors and persons with disabilities that have completed over 17,000 deliveries while supporting 4,500+ households. Don has requested some further information that we could share with our church family, including the history of the project over the 30 years it has operated, how it has evolved, its current details, and the success of the project over the years. In the coming months, we will keep you posted on The Good Neighbour Project, the connection to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, and how we at Glenbrook can be involved. Check out more informationhere:
